Highlanders Compete at Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational
Richotte a NCAA Qualifier

Blacksburg, Va. - Radford University track and field competed at the Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational over the weekend. The Highs produced one NCAA qualifier in the men's weight throw.

On day one Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) placed second behind VT's Spyridon Jullian to become an NCAA qualifier in the weight throw. His distance of 63'07.00" set a new school record breaking his previous record of 62'00.1". Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) placed third behind Richotte with a mark of 60'01.6"

In the sprints freshman Quentin Preston (Martinsville, Va.) made it to the semi-finals in the 60 meter dash where he tied the school record of 7.03 seconds. The record was previously held by Brandon Huntley.

In the women's weight throw Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.) nabbed second place throwing a distance of 60'03.60" Teammate Ashley Camden (Corunna, Ontario, Canada) threw a distance of 49'09.60" in the event, which was good for ninth place.

Grabbing a top-ten finish in the men's 5000 meter run was Mike Meehan (Orange, Va.). He placed seventh crossing the finish line at 15.43.40. In the women's 5000 Daphne Propst (Crimora, Va.) finished 10 with a time of 20.41.66.

On day two of the VT Indoor Invitational Evans would place third in the shot put and mark a distance of 46'08.20". Camden threw a distance 42'03.10" to place 12th in the event.

RU's Liz Banks (Holden, Mass.) finished 10th and recorded a time of 3:39.17 in the 1000 meter run.

In the sprints Maurika Quarles (Manassa, Va.) finished 27th and clocked a time of 25.76 in the 200 meter dash.

On the men's side Paul Hall (Brandywine, Md.)would finish 17th in the 200 meter dash and fall two tenths of a second short of breaking the school record. Preston and Ross Bolden (Charlottesville, Va.) placed 19th and 22nd respectively in the event.

Other finished on the evening were RU's Wayne Gore (Herndon, Va.) and Eric Joyce (Montpelier, Va.). Gore placed 15th in the 500 meter run and Joyce placed 20th in the 800 meter run.

The Highs will visit Johnson City, Tenn. next weekend Jan. 21-22 to compete in the Niswonger Invitational.
