Swimming Splits in Season Opener; Spradlin, Brooks Post Victories HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Raford earned a split and two Highlander swimmers took first place in their season opener Sunday in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium at Marshall University. The Highs defeated Youngstown State, 159-140 but fell to the host, 211-88. Kyndal Spradlin (Vinton, Va.) in her first collegiate meet had the fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.50), while Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va.) had the top spot in the 200-yard IM (2:12.65). For Youngstown, Erin Carter was the top finisher for the Penguins with a win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.87). Spradlin also had a pair of second place finishes in the 100 breast (1:09.91) and 100 fly (1:02.09). Brooks posted a second in the 200 fly (2:12.08) and third in the 200 free (2:01.39). The Highlanders return to action next Saturday at VMI to face Canisius and Old Dominion at 1:00 pm |
