Highs Fall to Eagles
STATESBORO, Ga. - Despite a strong showing Radford's swimming and diving drop meet to Northeast Conference member Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon with a score of 133-106. The Highs fall to 4-5 on the season.
Saturday afternoon the Highs walked away with four victories and nine second place finishes. Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover) swam a time of 18:34.68 to place first in the 1650 freestyle just ten seconds ahead of teammate Jenny Biles (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River). Deckert and Biles both landed second place finishes in the 500 yard freestyle (5:27.89) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.70) respectively. Also picking up first and second were Amy Wharen (Ponte Vedra) and Julie Brooks (Culpeper,Va./Culpepper) in the 200 yard freestyle. Wharen was clocked at 2:03.05 while Brooks fell close behind with a time of 2:05.60. Stacie Bliss (Chesapeake, Va.) and Brooks picked up victories in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard backstroke recording times of 56.78 and 2:14.97 respectively. The Highlanders' Libby Heeschen (Earlysville, Va./Albermarle) and Biles both placed second in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard backstroke respectively. In the 200-yard butterfly Kyndal Spradlin (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) placed second by only one one-hundredth of a second behind the Eagles' Florrie Cunningham. In the relays Radford placed second in both the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay. Radford will return back to the Dedmon Center Natatorium on Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. as they take on the Dukes of James Madison in a non-conference meet. |
