Liberty Bests Radford 3-1 LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty upped its record to 20-10 on the year with a 3-1 Big South Conference victory (30-22, 27-30, 30-19, 30-19) over in-state rival Radford, Tuesday evening, at the Vines Center. Liberty (20-10, 11-1 Big South) jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in Game One and never trailed en route to the eight-point victory. However, Game Two proved to be a completely different story as the Lady Flames only led twice in the game in which Radford (3-25, 2-10 Big South) reeled off eight of the last 11 points to go along with a .314 team hitting percentage to even the overall match at one game apiece. The Highlanders quickly scored the first two points of Game Three, only to have the Lady Flames respond by recording 10 of the next 13 points and cruise to the 11-point victory. Game Four was a tight match to begin with as the game was tied seven times; however, Liberty put together an impressive 14-2 run and added a .367 team hitting percentage to seal its seventh-consecutive victory. The Highlanders were paced by Tiffany Guthrie (Littleton, Colo.) as she finished with a match-high 18 kills and a .302 hitting percentage, while Elizabeth Aldredge (Richmond, Va.) followed with 12 kills and 12 digs. Sarah Gates (Hanover, Pa.) led the squad with 35 assists, while finishing with three of the team's impressive 26 block assists. The Lady Flames placed four players in double figures as Becky Rudnick (Chicago, Ill.) led the squad with 17 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Tatiana Tkachuk (Galesburg, Mich.) and Jennifer Belk (Leander, Texas) both followed with 16 kills apiece. Janell Migeot (Mission Viejo, Calif.) rounded out the double-figurer scorers with 11 kills and nine digs, while Katie Smith (Litchfield, Ariz.) led the squad with a career-best 34 assists. Radford will close out the season this weekend with two home Big South Conference matches. The Highlanders will host UNC Asheville on Saturday and Birmingham-Southern on Sunday. Both matches will be played at 2:00 pm. |
