Radford, Va. – Radford’s men’s tennis team lost a tough one, 4-3 to West Virginia this afternoon at the Dedmon Center Courts. In the final singles match of the day, WVU’s Kochanski rallied from 1-4 down in the first set of the #5 singles match to defeat RU’s Dominic Soeur, 7-5, 6-4 and give the Mountaineers the victory. With the defeat, the Highlander drop to 2-16 on the season, while West Virginia improves to 5-9.

The Highlanders garnered the first point of the day, taking two of three doubles matches from the Mountaineers. After Khalid Lhlamidi (Casablanca, Morocco) and Ross Harvey (Hillsville, Va.) fell to Eric Kochanski and J. R. Randall, 8-4, the Highlander picked up victories in the #1 and #2 matches. Robel Menigsteab (Kista, Sweden) and Bartlo Oosthuizen (Belleville, South Africa) def. Adam Marchetti and Tony Epkey 8-6, while the pair of Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) and Dominic Soeur (Herndon, Va.) won the final doubles match, 8-6, over WVU’s Alexandros Paschalides and Chris Green.

In singles, the Highlanders earned points at the number three and four singles. Arhammar defeated Paschalides, 6-4. 6-0, while Lhlamid downed Green, 6-2, 6-1. The Mountaineers garnered their three other points, taking the first, second and sixth singles in straight sets.

The Highlanders travel to Elon tomorrow and Liberty on Saturday. Matches will begin at 3:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively.
