Radford, Va. – In tennis action from Radford University, the Highlanders were swept by High Point University this afternoon in frigid conditions. On the women’s side, RU was swept 6-0, while the men fell 4-2. Doubles competition was cancelled due to the weather conditions.

In women’s action, Radford was defeated in straight sets in all six singles matches, falling to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the Big South. HPU improves to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the Big South.

For the men, Bartlo Oosthuizen (Belleville, South Africa) and Joakim Arhammar (Sollentuna, Sweden) picked up singles victories for the Highlanders. In the #1 singles match, Oosthuizen took the first set 7-6 (5) before High Point’s Jakob Windang retired in the second set. Arhammar defeated Thomas Sjoberg 6-3, 6-3 in the #3 singles. The Panthers took the other four singles in straight sets. Radford drops to 2-15 overall and 0-4 in the Big South, while HPU improves to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The RU men will return to their home courts tomorrow when they host West Virginia at 2:00 p.m. Both teams continue conference play on Friday when they travel to Elon for 3 p.m. matches. High Point’s women continue play on April 3 when they host UNC-Wilmington at 2 p.m., while both teams entertain Elon in conference action on April 12 at 2:30 p.m.
