Men's Soccer Shuts Down Lancers, 4-0

FARMVILLE, Va.--Radford took a 4-0 decision past host Longwood in the Lancers' first home men’s soccer match of the season Wednesday at Lancer Field. (Box Score)

Junior Romain Maudire (Rennes, France) notched two goals in the game to help propel the Highlanders to the victory.

Radford (2-2-3) scored all four goals in the first half of the contest to earn the victory. Maudire got the Highlanders on the board 12 minutes in the game when he scored on a double assist by junior Patrick Colas (Rennes, France) and senior Sean Johnson (Gilbert, Ariz.).

Johnson then assisted on a goal by Fernando Ramos (Stafford, Va.) at the 28:47 mark to push their lead to 2-0. Maudire and sophomore Ramon Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico) closed out the scoring for the Highlanders at the 36:53 and 41:00 minute mark, respectively. Maudire's second tally was unassisted while Negron, who was playing in the first game of his career, got an assist from Ramos.

Longwood freshman goalkeeper Matt VanOekel (Chesapeake, Va.) made a season-high 13 saves in the contest for Longwood, while RU junior Dan Stevens (Richmond, Va.), seeing his first action of the season, finished with two.

The Highlanders return to action this Saturday at 2:00 pm at Birmingham-Southern for a Big South Conference game. Longwood (0-9) will be back in action Sunday when the travel to West Virginia. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m..
