Radford Moves Into Fourth Place Tie At Big South Tournament

NINETY-SIX, S.C.-- Radford improved on it’s day one total of 304 by 11 strokes, shooting a day-two total of 293 to move into a three- way tie for fourth place with a 597 at the 2005 Palmetto Utility Protection Service Big South Conference Men’s Golf Championships, being played at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.

The Highlanders are now tied with Winthrop and High Point, and are just four strokes behind third-place Liberty and six strokes behind second place Charleston Southern. Coastal Carolina continues to maintain a commanding lead, up 34 strokes on CSU with a 557.

Radford senior Aaron Summers (Floyd, Va.) continues to lead the Highlanders after shooting a two-under par 70 on day two. Summers has a 142 (72-70) through two rounds, placing him in fourth place overall. Sophomore Josh Meador (Glen Allen, Va.) is tied for 11th with a 147 (73-74). Freshman Hampton Ballard (Pearisburg, Va.) improved on day one and now has a 152 (78-74), good for a tie for 23rd place. Junior Chris Bagg (Christiansburg, Va.) tallied a 159 (81-78) to place tied for 30th. Sophomore Robert Nuon’s (Centreville, Va.) 160 (85-75) rounds out the RU scoring, putting him in 33rd place.

Summers, a regular-season All-Conference selection, remains within striking distance of current leader Zack Byrd of CCU. Byrd holds a 137 (70-67) through two rounds.

The tournament concludes Wednesday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Radford’s Tuesday tee times begin at 9:15 am.
