Mantione, Fleisher Lead RU to First Win

NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Matt Mantione's two-out single in the top of the sixth plated freshman Nate Toth as Radford defeated Old Dominion, 5-4 in the final game of a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Complex. ODU is 2-1, Radford is 1-2. (Box Score)

With ODU leading 4-3 after five, winning pitcher and designated hitter Mark Fleisher hit a solo homer, his first of the season, to left off ODU starter Kevin Gunter to tie the game at four. with two outs, Nate Toth singled, followed by a single by David Landman. Mantione then singled to left of reliever Hunter Hall for the fifth and deciding run.

In the first inning Bryan Cipolla singled home Evan Chipman to give ODU a lead. In the third, Cipolla singled home Keith Hahn and Steve Harris to give ODU a 3-0 lead. ODU's final run came in the fourth as Hahn singled home Jesse Schoendienst.

ODU threatened in the eighth and ninth innings, but Radford's Cory Koliscak came came on in relief to pitch out of both jams with three strikeouts and his first save of the season.

Fleisher was four-for four on the day with two runs batted in for Radford. Nate Toth, David Landman and Matt Mantione each had two hits on the day for the Highlanders. ODU was led by Bryan Cipolla with three hits and three runs batted in, while Steve Harris and Jesse Schoendienst had two hits each. ODU returns to action on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. game at Liberty, then host nationally ranked Virginia on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
